1: AUSTRALIA / BEIJING

Depart Sydney with Qantas Airways on your direct flight to Beijing. Passengers from other capital cities will travel via Sydney to Beijing. On arrival you will be welcomed by your Helen Wong’s Representative and transferred to your hotel for three nights at Friendship Hotel or similar.

2: BEIJING - Forbidden City

Your exploration of Beijing begins at the vast open Tiananmen Square in the heart of the city. Stroll through the Gate of Heavenly Peace and enter the Forbidden City, the world’s best preserved imperial palace complex and the residence of Chinese emperors from the Ming through to the Qing dynasties. This extraordinary walled complex, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is truly a masterpiece of Chinese architecture. Optional Tour : See the charm of old Beijing through the ‘Hutongs’ - the back alleys – exploring by cycle rickshaw. Visit a local family home to obtain a glimpse in to their lifestyle and enjoy a home-cooked lunch. Cost: $50 per person.

3: BEIJING - The Great Wall

An exciting day starts with a drive to the modern and gigantic National Stadium and the Olympic Village built for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. A stop will be made at a local jade carving workshop to learn about the Chinese jade culture. After lunch, travel to China’s most iconic symbol - the Great Wall. Once you set foot on the wall, you will be impressed by the longest, oldest and most labour-intensive projects in mankind’s history. Climb the ramparts of this ancient wonder to view the beautiful mountain passes, plateaus and grasslands from atop this 7th century defensive fortification. Optional Tour : ‘The Golden Mask Dynasty’. A creative masterpiece inspired by ‘Sanxingdui’ ancient civilisation, representing a soul- stirring and romantic great love and harmony legend. Cost: $55 per person.

4: BEIJING / XIAN (High-speed train experience)

After breakfast this morning, transfer to Beijing Railway Station for a 5 hour high - speed train journey to Xian. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for two nights at the Grand Noble or similar. Delve into Xian’s historical past and enjoy the panoramic views as we drive by the city’s walls, originally built in the 14th century.

5: XIAN - Terracotta Warriors

Xian has been the capital of the Chinese empire for 1100 years. Visit the small Wild Goose Pagoda attached to the Jianfu Temple which was built to store scriptures brought back from India. A stop will be made to a clay factory where you can find impressive terracotta soldiers which are still made today. This afternoon, see China’s premier attraction, the magnificent life-sized Terracotta Warriors that were created to guard the tomb of China’s first emperor over 2,200 years ago and was only discovered in 1974 by local peasants digging a well.

6: XIAN / SHANGHAI

After breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival, you will visit the old charm of the Bund, as you walk along the park-like waterfront promenade with gorgeous views of the old and new Shanghai. Stay two nights at the Holiday Inn Express or similar. Optional Tour : Watch a superb and thrilling Chinese Acrobatic Show ‘ERA: The Intersection of Time’. Cost: $65 per person.

7: SHANGHAI

Today, visit the classical Yu Garden with lakes, pavilions and pagodas and reputed to have one of the best and largest rockeries. Then step back in time at the Shanghai Museum with a collection of over 120,000 pieces of art objects on display. End you day visiting an authentic local silk factory for an insight in to the history of Chinese silk manufacturing. Enjoy some free time this afternoon. Optional Tour : This evening, be sure to join the night cruise on the Huangpu River and complete the night sailing the tranquil waters and enjoy the spectacular lights of Pudong’s modern skyline Cost: $65 per person.

8: SHANGHAI / AUSTRALIA

Enjoy a day at leisure to explore Shanghai on your own. This afternoon, your incredible journey through China draws to an end as you are transferred to the airport for your overnight flight home.
